SUPERMAN/BATMAN: Public Enemies 09.29.09

The next DC Universe Animated Original Movie, SUPERMAN/BATMAN PUBLIC ENEMIES comes out September 29th! Here's the official trailer:

Not much to it. But Comic Book Resources has a two-minute clip from the movie! I stole if for ya:

"Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" features a star-studded voice cast filling the roles of super heroes and villains alike, including Kevin Conroy (Batman), Tim Daly (Superman), Clancy Brown (Lex Luthor), Allison Mack (Power Girl), Xander Berkeley (Captain Atom), Ricardo Chavira (Major Force), John C. McGinley (Metallo), LeVar Burton (Black Lightning), CCH Pounder (Amanda Waller) and a host of others.
Superman looks pretty violent in that, eh?

Here's a funny: The embed code for the trailer comes from the official movie site, but it's sourced out from MySpace. Warner Bros. is also doing some sort of (I didn't read the details) contest. When you click on that link: it takes you to Facebook. Wonder if the right hand knows what the left hand it doing? Heh.

Wolverine Boxers

A few weeks ago, Anonymous left a response to my Super: HERO underwear from aussieBum! post from last year where he says: "I would like to see Wolverine jockey shorts or briefs for men like myself to wear."

Well, being anonymous and all, I have no idea what a man like himself might be, mean or wear...but there are Wolverine boxers out there. Webundies has two!!

Don't say I never did anything for ya!! :-P

Random Crap & Thoughts

So, I was trying to come up with a new Donna Troy themed header, so ComicsAllTooReal's Chris would get off my back (not really, cuz he bites well). And somehow I went off on some bizarre tangent and this came out of it:
Don't even ask me, cuz I have no idea...
Why is it: that in this day and age, when most brand new TV series come out in box sets priced around $40-50, and you can usually find them on sale for $20-40...That Star Trek: Voyager, a show I really want on DVD, still costs over $60 a season, on sale!!?
WTF? Doesn't Paramount realize they might actually make some money on their stuff if it was affordable? Because I'm going to end up buying it used, and they won't get a penny of my money...

Speaking of used:
I was at McKay's (awesome used book, DVD, CD, video game store) a couple of days ago and picked up a couple cool things.
I finally got Kenneth Johnson's follow up to V, V: The Second Generation. If I read books more regularly, I'd be excited to jump into this. But it'll probably collect dust for a least a few months...
I also picked up an old Catwoman novel, which from what I can figure out online might be subtitled "Tiger Hunt," but there's nothing on my copy to indicate that.
I also picked up Showcase Presents: Legion of Super Heroes Vol. 2 for $4! I don't love the silver-age Legion enough to pay $17 for it, but $4 is worth it. LOL

Oh yeah, and HAPPY EASTER!!

Guess what my computer desktop looks like right now!!! ;-)

Spring Greening

Well, I tried to freshen up a little. Not sure I care for it. We'll see how long it lasts.

PREVIEWS Apr 2009 for June

Occasionally, when the mood strikes me, I run through the DC Solicitations to see what catches my eye. This time around I decided to give the Previews catalog a look. You never know what you'll find!!

Based on this cover (although with Frank Quitely, it's never easy to tell...), I'm guessing Damian will end up being Robin. He sure don't look like any version of Tim Drake I've seen in the past 10 years.

About a month ago I talked about the upcoming CAPTAIN CANUCK hardcover from IDW. And now's the time to order it!!!
The mail-order company I use DCBS is offering the pre-order with a 50% discount!! Only $12.49!! Of course, I was going to get it anyway, this just makes it sweeter!! ($16.49 @ Amazon)

See, If I hadn't gone thru the PREVIEWS catalog, I never would've known about this:
And since it says it's about Rick and his son and daughter (as opposed to his research assistant and a redneck survivalist) trapped in an alien world, we can assume this will at least resemble the TV series. I cringe whenever I think about the LAND OF THE LOST movie coming out...

Woot! Can't wait for PROJECT SUPERPOWERS to get going again. I just love it!!

More crazy Fletcher Hanks-y-ness:
If you read I SHALL DESTROY ALL CIVILIZED PLANETS, then for sure you're going to want to pick up YOU SHALL DIE BY YOUR OWN EVIL CREATION! If you missed CIVILIZED PLANETS the first time around (first four printings, actually)...it's available again too!! Amazon has them both at right around 30% off, which is about the same as DCBS.

This looks kind of interesting. Although, as much as I read books, I'll probably pass. Until I find the paperback...used for half-price. ;-)
Amazon: $17.81 | DCBS: $14.84

I would never buy this, but it still looks really cool!!
I was actually DOC SAVAGE obsessed for awhile. There was a laundromat near my house when I was a kid that sold used paperbacks for a quarter. I must've had at least 50 DOC SAVAGE novels. Not sure how many I read... LOL

OMG, has it really been 20 years!!! Yikes! I totally full-on remember that I saw this movie 6 times in the first 7 days it was out. Yeah, I was a major comic-book geek loser.
What?
I really want to get this more for the book than anything. And maybe someday I'll even have a Blu-ray player. Well, my computer plays Blu-ray, but I sit in front of this screen enough as it is!!

Yay I can't wait for this!!! I love TRUE BLOOD!! Although I stopped watching it about half-way through. But that was mostly because I kinda stopped watching most TV. This is awesome.

If the 2010 VINTAGE DC CALENDAR is even half what the 2009 was...it'll be the calendar of the year!!! The 2009 is just awesome in it's awesomeness.

What? Has it been like 3-4 years since we've had a WONDER WOMAN CALENDAR. I'm more surprised that it isn't linked with the movie. But I'll take what I can get!!

After the uproar over the Mary Jane statue, what are the odds that even one person will complain about Spidey having a building shoved up his ass?
Where do you think the pieces are connected?

This Kiss, This Kiss!

As if having Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez (with Kevin Nowlan) drawing Batman wasn't enough incentive to pick up last month's BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL (#26, April 2009)...

How's about some o' this:
Woot! Go Bruce!!

Part 2 of this 3-parter should be out today.

While I have a feeling there probably won't be anymore man-kissing -- there will be more Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez goodness...and that's enough for me!!!

A new Batman?

It's all over the net now, but seems to have originated at Australia's Herald Sun.
Apparently, the "industry buzz" is that Christian Bale's Terminator Salvation co-star, Sam Worthington, may be stepping into the shoes of Bruce Wayne in the next Batman movie.

Of course, at this point, any sort of Batman casting rumors should probably be taken with a grain of salt. But I suppose time will tell...

DC ELSEWORLDS - Live-action fan webseries UPDATE

Although it seems like it's been forever (well, really, it has...). And although they said in December it would be up in January (and, well, it wasn't...). It looks like the fourth chapter of the DC ELSEWORLDS webseries might get here soon! (YAY!)

Here's a teaser:

Part One: "Fair Play"

Part Two: "Titans"

Part Three: "What's in a name?"
"In Elseworlds, heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places - some that have existed, and others that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. The result is stories that make characters who are as familiar as yesterday seem as fresh as tomorrow."

"Where the hell is John Byrne?"

In the March 6th edition of his Unfortunate Confluence of Words column, Keith Giffen asks:
WHERE THE HELL IS JOHN BYRNE?: Love him or hate him, you cannot deny the guy's talent. John is one of the very few –along with Perez – comicbook creators (and yes, he has created stuff so I'm quite comfortable using the term) that I'd actually drop a project to work with. It's all about what's on the page and John puts it there like few before or since. C'mon, I can't be alone in this.
Since there's no contact info for Keith, or even a CBR Forum for him...I just decided to answer here. He'll never see it and never know it's here, but -- Oh well!!

an open letter to keith giffen:

Dear Keith: What? You don't read comics?

I kid, I kid. Basically, John's been busy. It's just that instead of Marvel or DC, he's been spending his time over at IDW.

During 2008 he did STAR TREK: ALIEN SPOTLIGHT #6, the 6-issue mini-series FX, 5 issues of STAR TREK: ASSIGNMENT EARTH, and the 2-part STAR TREK: ROMULANS - THE HOLLOW CROWN.

This month IDW begins two more Byrne minis: ANGEL: BLOOD & TRENCHES and STAR TREK: CREW. It's not like he ain't been working!! :)

As for you and John working together? I'd LOVE to see that. You're both incredible writers and awesome artists. I'd die to see what you could come up with together. Somehow, though -- I have a feeling that with you working on DOOM PATROL and Byrne's history with the same...it might be a sticking point...

But I'd hope not!!

Okay bye!

Captain Canuck!!!!

Captain Canuck was basically the first major Canadian superhero to actually come out of Canada.

He was created in 1975 by writer/artist Richard Comely. Although it was self-published by Comely Comix, it did receive distribution in the United States. There were 14 issues plus a treasury-sized limited edition of #4 and a Summer Special released from 1975-1981. George Freeman drew the Jonn back-up stories in issues #2 & 3. After a 4-year hiatus, CAPTAIN CANUCK returned with #4 in 1979 and with Freeman as the book's main artist.

So what does this history lesson have to do with anything? IDW is releasing 2 CAPTAIN CANUCK hardcovers collecting the series!!!

Well -- most of it, anyway. According to Richard Comely: "[IDW's] first release in June will feature Issues four to ten in a hard cover edition. The 1980 Summer Special and Issues 11 to 14 will be released in December. Issue one, two and three will be published by Comely Comix along with Issue 15 which was produced in 1980 but not published."

I'm ecstatic!!! I love George Freeman! LOVE him! He's up there on my list next to George Perez and Mike Grell! The only better news would be that he was going to be returning to drawing comics. I would die!

Unless he was returning to draw for Marvel, then I'd really die, because pffft.

2009 is awesome! George Perez drawing LEGION OF 3 WORLDS, Mike Grell doing covers for his new WARLORD series and now a deluxe release of George Freeman's CAPTAIN CANUCK! I almost feel like a kid again.

And at my age -- that's not easy, let me tell ya!!! ;-)

I got a Premio Dardo!!

You are now reading an award winning blog!! LOL!

Doug @ dougsploitation has awarded a Premio Dardo to Comics N Things! Yay!

Of course, I rarely take things at face value and, truth be told, it isn't necessarily a bad thing to occasionally be suspicious of Doug... (but I love ya!) So I Googled it and found this, which (to me) makes it basically legit, for what it is. Thanks, Doug! Yay me!

So...what is the Premio Dardo?

Premio Dardo means “Dart Award” in Spanish. It is given for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers and as a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.

What do you do once you’ve received one?

There are some rules to be followed:
  • First, accept the award by posting it on your blog along with the name of the person that has granted the award and link to his/her blog.
  • Second pass the award to another 5 blogs that are worthy of this acknowledgment, remembering to contact each of them to let them know they have been selected for this award.
Here are my five cultural, ethical, literary (or at least literate), and cool blogs (in alphabetical order):

Green Lantern Butt's Forever - I love reading SallyP's blog. Her reviews are great. And even when she just posts about butts, it's fun!

Hoosier journal of inanity - Sea_of_Green's blog isn't always about comics, but mostly it is. And it's fun to read about whatever it is she's blogging. And you at least have to love the "My Pal Itty" series!

I am Walter - Walt is an "inarticulate middle aged homo with a blog" (his words, not mine!). I've known Walt over half my life (yikes), but I'm always amazed what I find out when I'm reading his blog. You can also follow Walt's life visually @ My Bad Pictures.

My Opinion Doesn't Matter/Forgotten Golden Age Heroes - In depth profiles on many forgotten heroes, plus some of their adventures. My second favorite Golden Age Heroes blog (after mine, of course! :P).

No Room for Hipsters - My buddy Russ (aka Levon) and his wife Ashley are preparing to move to New York for a year. And, ouch, they're having trials and tribulations along the way. Reading about it is almost like watching a really-good reality show (which is an oxymoron). I can't wait until they're famous. Even though they'll have forgotten about me! :-P

GREEN LANTERN: FIRST FLIGHT - 07.28.2009

Press Release nicked from Newsarama:

Green Lantern: First Flight finds Hal Jordan recruited to join the Green Lantern Corps and placed under the supervision of respected senior Lantern Sinestro. The earthling soon discovers his mentor is actually the central figure in a secret conspiracy that threatens the philosophies, traditions and hierarchy of the entire Green Lantern Corps. Hal must quickly hone his newfound powers and combat the treasonous Lanterns within the ranks to maintain order in the universe.

Green Lantern: First Flight Blu-Ray versions will include all the great extras as the 2-disc Special Edition as well as an additional two episodes of Justice League picked by Bruce Timm.

“Warner Premiere along with our partners at DC and Warner Home Video has enjoyed great success with the DC Universe titles, and we’re proud to present this first feature-length animated Green Lantern film,” said Diane Nelson, President, Warner Premiere. “‘First Flight’ is a compelling story and a great vehicle to tell this iconic character’s story to both new and longtime fans.”

“In all of his incarnations, Green Lantern has stood as a fan favorite, and Warner Home Video is excited to provide fans with the character’s first full-length animated adventure,” said Amit Desai, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing. “Green Lantern was the perfect hero to follow movies featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the entire Justice League.”

“Warner Bros. Animation is known for creating outstanding animated properties and has a legacy built upon some of the greatest characters ever imagined,” said Warner Bros. Television President Peter Roth, who also oversees television animation for the Studio. “Producer Bruce Timm and his creative team continue that rich tradition with this terrific DVD feature.”

“As one of the true core DC Super Heroes, Green Lantern has captured the imagination of pop culture enthusiasts with his illuminatingly human approach to justice throughout the universe,” said Gregory Noveck, Senior VP Creative Affairs, DC Comics. “Alan Burnett’s script captures the essence of DC’s canon of Green Lantern tales, and provides a fine launching point for future stories with this character.”

Apart from this animated release, Warner Bros. Pictures is currently in pre-production on a new “Green Lantern” theatrical motion picture, to be directed by Martin Campbell, bringing the popular DC Comics super hero to the big screen for the first time.
