Cartoon Network's BATMAN: The Brave & the Bold

From Newsarama:
CARTOON NETWORK UPFRONT 2008
by Steve Fritz

For those not in the know, an upfront is when a TV network presents its plans for the next year. It’s one of their main ways of convincing advertisers that they have the programming that will attract the most of a particular target audience.

BATMAN: THE BRAVE & THE BOLD

Think James Tucker would be out of work long after they closed down Legion? Yeah, like that was going to happen.

Tucker has been named supervising producer of the much-anticipated latest Batman series. As many have already guessed, it features the Caped Crusader teaming up with some other major denizen of the DC universe. Among those mentioned were Green Arrow, Blue Beetle and even Aquaman. Now if they have any brains about them, I’d like to see a certain creepy yellow guy as well as a blonde bombshell who can blow you away by just opening up her lips.

Joining Tucker on the crew are the likes of fellow executive producer Linda M. Steiner, story editor and rising WB star Michael Jelenic as well as episode directors Ben Jones, Brandon Vietti and Michael Chang. According to informed sources, voice recording is going down now and the series is targeted to debut next March.

  1. Sure, Legion of Super-Heroes is toast, but Batman just keeps going and going in some form or another.

  2. I'm not sure how I feel about the look of the show, based on this drawing. I'll have to try it out, though.

  3. I'm also not sure about the look of the show either Walt. I can't help but be reminded of The Justice Friends from Dexter's Lab. Still, if the show has as much energy and style that Justice Friends had then I'd be willing to give it a shot. Hmm, I wonder what made them decide to go retro with Green Arrow?

  4. Walt: Yeah, me too. It looks a little too much like the new Super Friends comic, and I'm not keen on those character designs. But Blue Beetle looks really cool.

Mike: As much as I wish Legion was continuing (Season 2 rocked!), I'm glad to have at least some sort of representation of DC. And with this show, at least it's not just Batman, he'll have a bunch of DCU friends along.
The retro GA bothers me, only because "why?". They're using the current Beetle, but a GA that no one will be able to find in current comics. What up? But the idea of all the different characters they could be using is still kind of exciting. Hope they get some awesome action sequences like they had in the first few eps of Legion S2!
