Wonder Woman 298. December 1982

I don't have any major emotional memories with this one. Sorry. The thing I remember about this cover was someone else's reaction to it.

There was a review in Comics Buyers' Guide when it came out. I can't remember who wrote it, either Don or Maggie Thompson, but they really did not like it.

I remember them writing that this was the last issue of Wonder Woman they were going to read, because they hated when the skeleton of a super hero was used on a cover like this. I can't remember why they despised it so much, but they did.

They used the word "tripe" in their review. Something to the effect that they didn't like "this kind of tripe." I had never heard that word before, so I had to look it up. The first meaning was a cow's stomach, or somesuch. The second meaning was "rubbish," which I'm sure was what they were going for, heh.

But, hey, all in all, I learned a new word! LOL!

  1. Although I was still reading the book then, all I can remember is I just hated the art. I don't remember if this was Gene Colan (who normally I didn't mind) or Don Heck on interiors. All I know is I thought DC didn't care enough about the book to put someone good on it.

  2. Hmmm. Hadn't thought about that in awhile.
They rarely had a decent artist on WW in the late 70s early 80s. And if they did manage to get one, they were sure to put Vince Colletta or Frank Chiaramonte on inks to destroy it anyway...
