Random Crap & Thoughts

So, I was trying to come up with a new Donna Troy themed header, so ComicsAllTooReal's Chris would get off my back (not really, cuz he bites well). And somehow I went off on some bizarre tangent and this came out of it:
Don't even ask me, cuz I have no idea...
Why is it: that in this day and age, when most brand new TV series come out in box sets priced around $40-50, and you can usually find them on sale for $20-40...That Star Trek: Voyager, a show I really want on DVD, still costs over $60 a season, on sale!!?
WTF? Doesn't Paramount realize they might actually make some money on their stuff if it was affordable? Because I'm going to end up buying it used, and they won't get a penny of my money...

Speaking of used:
I was at McKay's (awesome used book, DVD, CD, video game store) a couple of days ago and picked up a couple cool things.
I finally got Kenneth Johnson's follow up to V, V: The Second Generation. If I read books more regularly, I'd be excited to jump into this. But it'll probably collect dust for a least a few months...
I also picked up an old Catwoman novel, which from what I can figure out online might be subtitled "Tiger Hunt," but there's nothing on my copy to indicate that.
I also picked up Showcase Presents: Legion of Super Heroes Vol. 2 for $4! I don't love the silver-age Legion enough to pay $17 for it, but $4 is worth it. LOL

Oh yeah, and HAPPY EASTER!!

I got a Premio Dardo!!

You are now reading an award winning blog!! LOL!

Doug @ dougsploitation has awarded a Premio Dardo to Comics N Things! Yay!

Of course, I rarely take things at face value and, truth be told, it isn't necessarily a bad thing to occasionally be suspicious of Doug... (but I love ya!) So I Googled it and found this, which (to me) makes it basically legit, for what it is. Thanks, Doug! Yay me!

So...what is the Premio Dardo?

Premio Dardo means “Dart Award” in Spanish. It is given for recognition of cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values transmitted in the form of creative and original writing with the intention of promoting fraternization between bloggers and as a way of showing affection and gratitude for work that adds value to the Web.

What do you do once you’ve received one?

There are some rules to be followed:
  • First, accept the award by posting it on your blog along with the name of the person that has granted the award and link to his/her blog.
  • Second pass the award to another 5 blogs that are worthy of this acknowledgment, remembering to contact each of them to let them know they have been selected for this award.
Here are my five cultural, ethical, literary (or at least literate), and cool blogs (in alphabetical order):

Green Lantern Butt's Forever - I love reading SallyP's blog. Her reviews are great. And even when she just posts about butts, it's fun!

Hoosier journal of inanity - Sea_of_Green's blog isn't always about comics, but mostly it is. And it's fun to read about whatever it is she's blogging. And you at least have to love the "My Pal Itty" series!

I am Walter - Walt is an "inarticulate middle aged homo with a blog" (his words, not mine!). I've known Walt over half my life (yikes), but I'm always amazed what I find out when I'm reading his blog. You can also follow Walt's life visually @ My Bad Pictures.

My Opinion Doesn't Matter/Forgotten Golden Age Heroes - In depth profiles on many forgotten heroes, plus some of their adventures. My second favorite Golden Age Heroes blog (after mine, of course! :P).

No Room for Hipsters - My buddy Russ (aka Levon) and his wife Ashley are preparing to move to New York for a year. And, ouch, they're having trials and tribulations along the way. Reading about it is almost like watching a really-good reality show (which is an oxymoron). I can't wait until they're famous. Even though they'll have forgotten about me! :-P

I Dream of Stephanie

I never remember my dreams. No matter how hard I try, they just go away. Sometimes to the point I wonder if I even do dream. But I had one last night that was so weird, I literally forced myself to remember it.

Last night I dreamt of Stephanie Brown.

Well, kinda sorta. I was reading an issue of Previews (yes, apparently I not only eat, breathe and live comics, I dream them, too) and there was a solicitation that was really bizarre. I just wish I could remember which comic it was for. But, anyway, it read:
Batman was no Punisher. But with his bequest to Stephanie...he may have created one! Finally, an ID that's not a secret anymore!
Don't ask me to explain any of it. I don't know. That was my subconscious speaking, lol. Hell, "bequest" is barely in my vocabulary. Dork that I am, I even looked it up to make sure it was somewhat in context so I wouldn't look like a complete fool.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

:P

P.S. No, the picture really has nothing to do with the dream. But how could I do a post that was image-less!? It's just not me!

Analyze This ... Blog!

Via Sea of Green's Hoosier Journal of Inanity, I came across LibraryBytes' collection of tools with which to analyze your blog. And I decided to play!! (I'm such a follower!) They're kinda fun!!

Typealyzer analyzes what type of person writes the blog. This is me (I'm a "feeler" which sounds kinda bad, when you're mind works like mine does...)--
The analysis indicates that the author of http://comicsnthings.blogspot.com is of the type:

ESFP - The Performers

The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don't like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.

The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

The Genderanalyzer determines the gender of the blog writer:
We think http://comicsnthings.blogspot.com/ is written by a woman (73%).
I guess I focus too much on the package... :-/

The Blog Readability Test determines the level of education required to understand your blog. You need at to be at least at a High School reading level to understand my blog, apparently. I would've guessed closer to sixth grade. Who knew!?

You can also find out how much your blog is worth.

blog readability test

My blog is worth $5,080.86.
How much is your blog worth?

ComicsNThings is now for sale!!

Obama reads Comics

According to U.K. news source The Telegraph, U.S. President Barack Obama collects Spider-Man and Conan the Barbarian comics!! How cool is that!?

He's also a 2-time Grammy winner and reads Harry Potter.

But...and I don't know how big of a comic person he actually is (or was, I'm sure he's got bigger things to worry about now than Pete and MJ's marriage)... But, how much more cred do you think comics could/might get if they were read by a freakin' President?

Probably none, since it's not as important as a lot of other things. But it's still interesting to think about...

All of these things are just like the others...

Can you decipher what all these movies have in common?

Okay, yeah, I was bored. Sorry.

I love Lisa Hartman.

Oh gosh, this is just...wow!

I already have the original 1987 release, having bought it just months before it ended up in the cut-out bin. But still -- This is the awesome!sauce! I may have to buy another copy!!

Sorry, I know this is completely unrelated to comics (hence the "n things"), but my love for Lisa Hartman is kinda fanatical.

Now if only she'd record some new music...

[Having just proofread this post, I cannot believe this album is over 20 years old!! That blows my mind. Sometimes I guess I forget how old I am, LOL!]

Batman Returns as Terminator Begins

I'm so out of the loop!!
There was a time when I would've known about this movie as soon as the script was being written. Now I find out not only after it's half filmed...but after the teaser trailer has been released!! I suck!

Batman's got another film in the pipeline with Christian Bale taking over the role of John Connor in Terminator Salvation!!
Unlike the first three movies that took place in the present, this one takes place in the future. Judgment Day has happened and the machines are taking over. It's set 3 years before the first Terminator is sent into the past.

Here's the trailer:

You can see it in HD at the Terminator Salvation blog.

Yay! I didn't win again!

Well, my entry in the Living Between Wednesdays Caption Contest didn't win, but I did get a special mention, so that rocks! Feel the love! :)

The Wonder Woman Jumper

Practical Polly's blog has nothing to do with comics, but that didn't stop her from knitting up this awesome Wonder Woman jumper!!! You should head over to her blog to see more pics of it and tell her how cool it is!!!

Stardust

Why is nobody going to see this movie? It's probably one of the better movies that's come out this year! It's so much fun, and it's tanking at the box office.
I guess maybe it's a hard sell, since it's not like every other movie out there today. Or maybe it's just that people don't like something that's different. I don't know.

What HEROES do on their day off...

When Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman) pays Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh) a compliment...Ramamurthy shows his gratitude.

Yep, this is the kiss! Get over it fan boys!

Happy Friday the 13th - Scary Mary!

In honor of friday the 13th, I give to you a movie trailer that could induce nightmares!!! The funny thing is: it's a trailer to a happy, family musical. Go figure. A remix trailer for Mary Poppins:

Tiff's Back

I've always liked Tiffany, even when it wasn't cool to do so (and maybe it's still not, I don't know). She released her 7th album this month and it's pretty good. The woman can sing. Here's the video for the first single. I love it. LOVE. IT.

6.25.2007

The Landlord

I'm not the biggest fan of Will Ferrel. But this is just so damn cute. Makes me "laugh out loud" every time I watch it. I can't imagine whose face it won't at least put a smile on. Pearl rocks!

Ultimate Fighting

This is the cover to the May 28 issue of Sports Illustrated.

I don't read the magazine. I don't care about sports. I know nothing about Ultimate Fighting, and have a feeling I wouldn't care too much to watch it.

But damn, this cover is kinda hot.

I just wanted to share it. LOL!

In our future...

Oh dear, only one day and I'm already digressing. Oh well, get over it!

My sister sent me a funny in an email.

But it was kinda cheesy looking.

So I re-did it.

Now it looks more fun. :)
