Eartha Kitt dies after cancer fight

(Thursday December 25, 2008)

Singer and actress Eartha Kitt has died of colon cancer at the age of 81, a family friend said.

The sultry singer, dancer and actress rose from the South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality.

Andrew Freedman said Kitt died on Christmas Day of colon cancer and was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

Kitt, a self-proclaimed "sex kitten" famous for her catlike purr, was one of America's most versatile performers, winning two Emmys and getting a third nomination. She also was nominated for two Tony Awards and a Grammy.

Green Fury the green-flamed hero

You know Dazzler,

Wind Dancer,

The Prancer,

And Vixen.

Comet,

And Cupid,

Dick Donner,

And Blitzen.

But do you recall
The most famous Super-Friend of all?

Fury the green-flamed hero,
Had a very fiery nose.
And if you ever saw it
You would surely say it blows.

All of the other heroes
Used to laugh and call her names.
They never let Green Fury
Join the super hero games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say:
"Fury, with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

This made the others jealous,
And they shouted out meanly:
"Fury the green-flamed hero,
Your power's disgusting!"

Merry Christmas!
